SANGALLENSIS CODEX 264

"Sangallensis 264, saec. IX2, parchment, 8o (12.9-13 x 18,5-7 cm), 238 pages, I column, 17 lines in pages 3 & 236, 18 elsewhere, written by one hand. Red initials Letters and Chapter headings, dark brown ink for text. Pp 3-236 contain the Prognosticum, pp. 237-238 containing verses and glosses in more than one rather later hand. The manuscript is listed as at St. Gallen in catalogues of saec. IX and 1461. See also the ex-libris, p. 2  (sec. XV): "Lib(er) b(eati) Galli fr(atr)um...." There are a number of corrections, some evidently by the same or a contemporary hand (= eadem vel coaeva manus), some later".

For the above description of the Codex, see J.N. Hillgarth,
Introduction to the critical edition of the works of Julian of Toledo, VIII–LXXIV. Corpus Christianorum, Series Latina 115. Turnhout, 1976, here LIV. See also Gustav Scherrer, Verzeichniss der Handschriften der Stiftsbibliothek St. Gallen, Halle 1875. p. 99.

The codex was produced in the Abbey of St. Gallen (Switzerland) during the last third of the IX century. Thanks to the e-codices project of the St. Gallen Stiftsbibliothek the codex 264, containing the integral text of the Prognosticum Futuri Saeculi, is available on-line since 07/31/2009.
