Archbishop of Toledo - Primate of Spain
CARDINAL ANTONIO CAŅIZARES LLOVERA, after many years teaching Theology and Catechetics, an area in which he is
particularly experienced, was consecrated Bishop in 1992. He was Bishop
of Avila (1992-1996) and then Archbishop of Granada (1997-2002). In 2002
he was nominated Archbishop of the Primatial See of Toledo and in the
Consistory of 2006 was created Cardinal-Priest, and assigned the titular
Church of St. Pancratius, by his Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. He is at
present Vice-president of the Conferencia Episcopal Espaņola and member
of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Pontifical
Commission Ecclesia Dei.
In December 2008
Card. Canizares Llovera, Archbishop of Toledo and Primate of Spain, was
named by the Holy Father Benedict XVI as Prefect of the Congregation for
the Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments.
